This course is aimed at students who want to work as Early Educationalist (Pre-School teachers) or to work in Social Care. The learner will gain knowledge, skills and the competence to work under supervision and independently in a range of Early Childhood Care and Education settings. It can also be a stepping stone into our level 6 Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education programme or into Degree Programmes in Ireland through out college linkages and the CAO system
Duration: 1 Year full time, Level 5.
60 hours is the minimum requirement for work placement in a Early childhood service/Pre-school for 2 days per week,(Thursday and Friday) once Garda vetting has been received through the Waterford & Wexford ETB Human Resources Department.

€100 approximately includes two uniform tunics and the First Aid Certificate.
€50 exams fee (exempt from payment if you hold a valid medical card).
€200 materials fee.
€200 Government levy (Government levy not included if you hold a valid medical card, are getting the Grant BTEI or VTOS).
Total = 300 euro for medical card or 550 for non medical card
All students must wear a uniform in college and on work placement. The wine (unisex) scrub top costing is included in the materials fee. However students must also wear a black long sleeved top under the tunic/polo t-shirt, black formal trousers, black shoes and black stockings. A black full zip/button fleece/cardigan is allowed during the colder months. Student ID badges must be worn at all times.
Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) or over 18.
No requirements for over 23’s.
A Waterford & Wexford ETB Garda Vetting form must be completed on registration for this course (This vetting form can be obtained from School PLC office).
Early Educationalist (Pre-school teacher) in a Pre-school, Crèche or Nursery.
Primary School Classroom Assistant.
Professional Child Minder / Au Pair.
After School Provider.
Self-employed – Start your own Childcare Business.
Wexford Campus (Carlow I.T.)
EVC has a long established link with Wexford Campus whereby our ECCE Level 5 distinction students can transfer into the first year of the BA honours in Early Childhood Education and Care CW028. There are 6 reserved places in Wexford Campus (Carlow IT) for the BA in Early Childhood Education and Care for our students.

Links are associated with Media Production, Legal Studies, Sports & Recreation, Pre 3rd Level Science and Early Childhood Care and Education. Each February Mid-term, Prospective students will go to Aberystwyth with Liam Sharkey to get a private tour of the facilities there.
