Sixteen students from Enniscorthy Vocational College of Further Education travelled to Vasteras, Sweden on January 6th 2018 to complete three weeks work placement. The Erasmus Plus exchange programme is totally funded by Leargas and allows students to gain invaluable work experience in their chosen area of study in a foreign country. The students were selected following interviews from the following departments: Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Pre-Science, Pre-Nursing, Business and Childcare. The Swedish students from an upper secondary school in Vasteras, Carlsforsska Gymnasiet visited Enniscorthy prior to Christmas and completed their work placement. This exchange has been in existence now for ten years and has grown from strength to strength. While the weather in Sweden is cold in January often well below zero, students quickly adapt to their new environment and the different challenges that face them. According to Principal Dr. Iain Wickham the feedback from students has always been positive as they get an excellent opportunity to experience the different work customs and traditions of Sweden. The experience also highlights to the students the opportunities that now exists within Europe particularly for people with qualifications and those who are willing to travel. While in Sweden, the students get to visit the capital city of Stockholm to view its many attractions along with attending a bandy match, which is very similar to ice hockey.
